2026!

Happy New Year all!

I hope those of you who celebrate it had a great Christmas, and I wish all of you a happy, healthy and game-filled 2026.

I feel like 2026 has started today, since we've been away visiting family.

I back now.

It's my first Monday off in a while, which gives me a chance to sort many things out.

I'll be doing some work on the Gal4Xeon campaign.

It's off to a great start with nearing as many followers as Exodus had at launch already.

With 3.5 months to go before launch.

Could this be our most successful roll and write campaign?

We'd really appreciate any follows or shares if you know people who might like a 30 minute 4X game.

I'll also be working on the Italian translation of the Exodus rules.

And planning the local convention I've taken over with a few other local gamers.

Progress.

Feels great after a decent break.

I even managed to maintain my daily game design habit over the break :)

Action

I've been feeling a bit jaded the last few weeks.

It's sapped my enthusiasm.

I've not made much progress.

Things we're piling up in front of me.

I needed a change.

I took Wednesday off work.

Cracked on with those tasks.

New versions of a couple of roll and write prototypes.

Sorting out a couple of FlickFleet fulfilment tasks.

Started writing the 3rd edition rulebook.

Made decent progress.

Carried that into the weekend.

Had two hours to myself during Daughter the Second's dance rehearsal.

Spent it playtesting.

Made changes. Tried them out. More progress.

Got home. Made more changes.

I made a note once. I think I read it from Shane Parrish.

Action leads to Progress. Progress leads to Momentum. Momentum leads Motivation.

I think it might be true.

It's been a good week. Things are picking up.

Daily

I have a set of actions I do every day.

I’ve kept it up for 155 days.

An unbroken chain.

Would have been 279, but I think I forgot one of the actions a couple of times on holiday back in April.

It’s really helped me.

I’ve been way more productive.

But I didn’t do enough on the Gamefound page during August.

Progress has been too slow

A two week holiday, Tabletop Scotland and my daughter’s birthday all got in the way.

But those are just excuses.

I need to do better.

So I’ve added it to my daily chain.

I’ve made progress every day this week.

It’s taking shape now :)

The Slow March of Progress

The Baby is sleeping particularly badly at the moment, a combination of teething x4 and a filthy cold. As a result The Wife and (to a lesser extent) I are also sleeping really badly too. To survive we're going to bed crazy early, which considering my Eurydice Games time is after the kids go to bed means I'm making little progress at the moment. I am making some though.

The Father-in-law was up at the beginning of the week, and bless him he did a bunch of my chores, which freed up some time. That meant that one evening I finished early enough to do some bagging of bits for the FlickFleet prototype, and then Thursday before Games Night I had a few minutes to cut out my ship dashboards and make a box. With the exception of the rule book (which is currently undergoing a revision), I have an up-to-date copy! That should make teaching it to people a bit easier - playing with out of date dashboards was very confusing.

I also spent a couple of lunch breaks mocking up a FlickFleet box:

Mock up of a FlickFleet box design

What are your thoughts? Obviously, the art is just placeholders at the moment, to get a feel for the composition. Feedback on twitter earlier in the week was it wasn't clear that the shadowy hand was flicking the beige ship - maybe extending the middle to little fingers would help.
